Lipoprotein(a) levels and atherosclerotic plaque characteristics in the carotid artery: The Plaque at RISK (PARISK) study

چکیده

AbstractBackground and aims Lipoprotein(a) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease recurrent ischemic stroke. levels are known to be associated with carotid artery stenosis, but the relation of lipoprotein(a) atherosclerotic plaque composition morphology less known. We hypothesize that higher lipoprotein(a)-related SNPs a more vulnerable this effect sex-specific. Methods In 182 patients Plaque At RISK study we determined concentrations, apo(a) KIV-2 repeats LPA SNPs. Imaging characteristics atherosclerosis were by MDCTA (n = 161) and/or MRI 171). Regressions analyses used investigate sex-stratified associations between levels, repeats, imaging characteristics. Results was presence lipid-rich necrotic core (LRNC) (aOR 1.07, 95% CI: 1.00; 1.15), thin-or-ruptured fibrous cap (TRFC) 1.01; 1.14), degree stenosis (? 0.44, 0.00; 0.88). women, intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) 1.25, 1.06; 1.61). men, 0.58, 0.04; 1.12). Rs10455872 significantly increased calcification volume 0.25; 1.89) absence ulceration 0.25, 0.93). T3888P LRNC 0.36, 0.16; 0.78) smaller maximum vessel wall area -10.24, 95%CI: -19.03; -1.44). Conclusions symptomatic IPH, LRNC, TRFC, as characteristics, in artery. lower prevalence area. Further research larger populations needed confirm these results.

Intraplaque Hemorrhage and the Plaque Surface in Carotid Atherosclerosis: The Plaque At RISK Study (PARISK)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: An important characteristic of vulnerable plaque, intraplaque hemorrhage, may predict plaque rupture. Plaque rupture can be visible on noninvasive imaging as a disruption of the plaque surface. We investigated the association between intraplaque hemorrhage and disruption of the plaque surface. MATERIALS ANDMETHODS: We selected the first 100 patients of the Plaque At RISK...

Definition of common carotid wall thickness affects risk classification in relation to degree of internal carotid artery stenosis: the Plaque At RISK (PARISK) study

BACKGROUND Mean or maximal intima-media thickness (IMT) is commonly used as surrogate endpoint in intervention studies. However, the effect of normalization by surrounding or median IMT or by diameter is unknown. In addition, it is unclear whether IMT inhomogeneity is a useful predictor beyond common wall parameters like maximal wall thickness, either absolute or normalized to IMT or lumen size...

Prevalence and risk factors for atherosclerotic carotid stenosis and plaque

Atherosclerotic carotid stenosis (ACS) is a major cause of ischemic stroke. Screening for asymptomatic ACS is important to identify the patients who require longitudinal surveillance, medication, or endovascular surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and risk factors for ACS and carotid plaque (CP) in Korea using a population-based screening study. We recruited participants ...
